Kirsten's Karate Test

Here are a few pics from Kirsten's recent successful karate test. She was up for the rank of Hachikyu, which to all us westerners roughly translates to "second green stripe". Really, at this point in the training, you're beginning to get past the very basic routine training drills. Which is good because they can become a little tedious... Of course, no matter how long you've been training, or what rank you are, you never stop practicing these basics. But, Kirsten, now having been successfully awarded her second stripe, will be taught a few more new, and more advanced things. She'll learn the 3rd kata (form) and a few more pre-arranged fighting sequences that help develop your skills for the more advanced stuff later on. CONGRATS KIRSTEN!!!!!

On another note, we were at the annual Dojo banquet last night. It was held at the Coast Plaza Terrace Inn downtown - very nice. We had a demo before hand that both Kirsten and I got to be a part of. Good Times. This banquet marked a milestone year for our Sensei (teacher) Neil Dunnigan and his dojo, celebrating 25 years!!! Wow, time flies!!!!!
